Meet The Band
Colchester City Pipe Band have a wonderful group of young and mature members of the band who are as passionate about the music they play as you could ever imagine.

Please find below our regular band members, there are some members missing from this list and some who join our band in times of need and each and every one of our members regular or not are important to us.

We are nothing without the great people that form our band!
Jerry Woolf
Drum Major/ Bass drummer.
​
Jerry joined the band as a trainee bass drummer in 2010 and went on to achieve a good standard playing at various high profile events and tattoos.
He had a break from the band and returned in 2018 as drum major and has served as such to date

Jamie Shand
Pipe Sergeant.
​
Jamie says it's all about the sound ... and being the the best looking bearded bloke in the band.

Bob Adam
Bagpiper.
​
Bob has been playing bagpipes for 40 years and has a varied path to joining the band 5 years ago.
He loves playing his Pipes and has played in lots of high profile events and tattoos all over Europe.

Maureen Putman
Bagpiper.
​
Maureen has been playing bagpipes for 19 years the majority of the time with the band and is very valued member.
​

Michael Suttey
Trainee Bagpiper.
​
Michael has been attending practice sessions with the band for 8 months and is progressing very well .
​

John Roy
Bagpiper (legend).
John has been playing pipes for 35 years, he has the honour of being a lifetime member of the band.
He was instrumental in the formation of the band and the original chairman for which the band is forever grateful.
John Evans
Bass/Snare drummer/Drum Sergeant.
​
John has been playing drums for 40 years in various bands.
He joined the band 6 years ago and played snare drum and switched to Bass, he has enjoyed playing at tattoos in Europe.

Ian Perry
Snare drummer.
​
Ian learned drums in the army at the age of 16 , after a long gap decided to pick up his sticks again and joined the band 6 years ago and is loving it.

John Wilson
All round musician.
​
John started playing brass and piano at the age of 5 ,
By the age of 19 he was a military band master.
He has played at high profile events including one at Buckingham Palace which gave him a 45 minute sitting with the late Queen.
He has been at the band for 2 years and has helped the tenor section especially the younger members, more recently He has been with the snare drummers.

Lily
Tenor drummer.
​
Lily has been a member of the band for 2 years and is progressing very well , she is a real asset to the band .
Paul Young
Pipe Major.
​
Paul has been playing bagpipes for 30 years plus , he has a love for all Scottish music and brings a wealth of experience to the band.
He has been P/M since the formation of the band in 2009 and is the driving force behind the success achieved to date.

Andy Millman
Bagpiper.
​
Andy is another piper who has been playing bagpipes for 30 years plus.
He is a founder member of the band and has served the with diligence and passion to date.
​

Hugh Black
Bagpiper.
​
Hugh has been playing bagpipes for 55 years in 15 different bands and 3 countries.
He learned to play Pipes at school and took music at "O" level with bagpipes as his primary instrument.
And obviously brings a variety of experience which is great for the band.
Janet Johnston
Bagpiper.
​
Janet has recently joined the band and is enjoying herself, she started playing at 14 years old and went on to meet her husband through a pipe band and they produced an amazing Tenor drummer.

Andrew MacFarlane
Bagpiper/Bass drummer.
Andrew was a founder member of the band having previously played for a couple of local bands.
He moved away from the area but has recently returned and rejoined the band and has been welcomed back , he is looking forward to many fun times.
Carter Hemmings
Bagpiper.
Carter is a very enthusiastic member of the band , he has been learning and playing his pipes for 4 years.
He is really enjoying being a member of the band and looks forward to attending practice every week.
Debbie Grove
Snare drummer.

Debbie has been playing drums for approximately 50 years, starting with the girls brigade at the age of 10.
She joined the band in 2009 and has enjoyed playing at various events all over Europe.
Debbie worked at the NHS for 40 years in micro biology.

Michael Taylor
Snare drummer.
​
Michael played with Southend Scottish pipe band for 8 years and joined Colchester 2 years ago.
He has always enjoyed playing drums and is looking forward to many future exciting upcoming events.

Lorna Johnston
Tenor drummer.
​
Lorna has been playing in pipe bands for 10 years and has been with Colchester a short while being a great help to the younger members.
She is learning bagpipes and also drum majoring.
